Getting Started & Next Steps

Moving forward with a timber frame project is a clear, structured process designed to protect your investment, maintain quality, and keep the project on schedule.

Initial Consultation

The process begins with a conversation. Contact Kennebec Timber Framing to discuss the project you have in mind. Meetings can take place at our shop or by phone and are intended to better understand your goals, timeline, and how the timber frame will be used within the overall build.

Preliminary Proposal

Once project goals and scope are established, a preliminary proposal is issued outlining the project, general parameters, and anticipated costs. This proposal provides the foundation for design development and scheduling.

Commitment & Scheduling

When you are ready to proceed, a signed contract and initial deposit are required. This step secures your place in our production schedule and formally transitions the project from proposal to active planning. At this stage, we also begin outlining projected timelines and key milestones.

Payment Schedule

A clear payment schedule is established as part of the contract. Payments are aligned with defined project milestones to ensure transparency and steady progress throughout the build process.

Design Phase

Once Contracted, the project enters the design phase. During this stage, the timber frame design is finalized and detailed drawings are developed. This includes Timber frame shop drawings, insulated panel design, foundation design, roof and wall assemblies, and all associated openings for windows, doors etc.

All plans are reviewed with the client and must be approved and signed off prior to production. This ensures alignment on design, dimensions, and scope before materials are ordered.

Production & Cutting

Following final design approval, timbers are ordered and milled to the correct specification and each timber is carefully laid out and hand cut in our shop. Attention to detail at this stage ensures accuracy and consistency throughout the build.

Delivery & Frame Raising

Once production is complete, delivery and frame raising are coordinated based on project readiness and site conditions. We work closely with the client and their builder to ensure the frame is delivered and installed efficiently and safely.

Each step in this process is carefully managed to maintain quality, efficiency, and a high level of craftsmanship from initial consultation through final installation.
